The day of small things

One quality we consistently find in the lives of the men and women throughout Scripture whom God put His hand on, is faithfulness.
We read in 2 Timothy 2:2, “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also”.
And Jesus said in Luke 16:10, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.”
The Lord has a plan and a purpose for everyone’s life. But most people are too impatient to allow the Lord to train and equip them to carry out the plan He has for us. But, how does the Lord train us, you may ask? The Lord uses the little things and tasks that no one ever seems to want to do to prepare us for the large assignments that He has for us.
If you can’t seem to find anything to do to serve God just ask your pastor. I’m sure that he has many tasks that no one is current doing.
And remember, in God’s kingdom there are no small tasks, only people who think that they are too big or important to do them. God in the Bible says, “For who has despised the day of small things?” (Zechariah 4:10)
Also, God uses the trials and tribulations that come into our lives to train us as well. Most people, when they find trials and difficulties have come into their lives, immediately want someone to pray that God will take away their troubles. Instead, we should seek the Lord and ask Him what it is that He is trying to teach us during this time so that we don’t have to repeat the lesson. Right now, you may be in a place in life where nothing seems to be happening. You might be thinking, “Lord, come on! Use me. Call on me. I will turn this world upside down for You.”
But the Lord may be saying, “You are not ready yet. I have to prepare you first.”
Be faithful to do what He has set before you today to the best of your ability. That’s what David did. When Samuel anointed David as God’s chosen one to be the leader and King of Israel, David wasn’t promoted immediately into the job. In fact, after this time we see David tending his family’s sheep as a shepherd, the lowliest job at that time. The next time we see him he is a servant to King Saul. Then David is a commander of Saul’s army. Then he is leading a band of outlaws. But the Lord found David faithful and at God’s appointed time David did become the greatest King of Israel.
That is what Stephen did. Acts 6 tells us his job was to serve tables. Notice the church leaders didn’t say, “Stephen, go out and do miracles and then go preach the gospel to the Sanhedrin. While you are preaching, a guy named Saul of Tarsus will hear you. He ultimately will be converted. He will be the greatest preacher in the history of the church.”
Instead, Stephen waited on tables. And as the Lord found him faithful in the little things, He gave him more responsibility. You can never be too small for God to use; only too big. We need to be faithful in what God has set before us because if we are not faithful in the little things, then we won’t be in the big things.
