Joanne Smith
Pro Shop Supervisor
Welcome members, new members, 10-pack and green fee players, and all potential golfers!
On behalf of the board of directors, president Dan Sloan, Ron Howells, Arnold Q. Gauchier, Dave Temple, Bruce Cunningham, Rick Guttinger and Rick Dumont, we invite you to visit the High Prairie and District Golf Club. It is a beautiful 9-hole public course situated seven kilometres west of High Prairie on Highway 2.
Don Carlson and Carol Winterburn at Kenatan Catering have returned again this year to operate the food and beverage services. If you are not a golfer we would love to see you out there enjoying the picturesque and tranquil setting while having a meal and beverage at the Spike Lounge. The Spike Lounge is located on the upper level of the clubhouse.
Season off to good start
We are off to an exciting start this season after having had a full complement of golfers on our opening day, April 30. I am delighted to return for my third season as pro shop supervisor. I, along with my staff, Vince Cunningham, Nikki Benoit and KayLee Gauchier, are looking forward to meeting and greeting all of you.
Grounds Supt. Michael Ochran and his crew did an awesome job to get our course ready for the April 30 opening. Our greens are in great condition for this time of year and it is anticipated that everything will be in excellent shape by the end of the month.
In October 2008 more substantial improvements took place on the grounds. A new forward tee box on the first hole was built; the tee box on the eighth hole was extended making it a triple tiered staggered tee box; the tee box on the ninth hole was extended back and the forward tee box was made wider and longer; and, the old pond on the ninth hole was deepened and narrowed to have a creek effect. The new tee box on the eighth hole will be sodded before the end of May.
Royal Bank sponsors towels
Special thanks to the High Prairie Royal Bank for sponsoring towels for the ball washers.
The towels are awesome and if anyone knows what happened to the ones on holes six and eight, please let us know. I’m sure whoever borrowed them would like to put them back.
Check out our website
Last year we acquired a website thanks to Derek Stout, who took the initiative to develop it for the club. You can access it at hpgolfclub.com . Check out this year’s fees, tournament dates and other vital information which we will endeavour to keep posted on the website.
Remember to bring your camera next time you play a round and post some pictures. Please keep in mind this is a work in progress and we will do our utmost to keep improving and updating it.

Members record hole-in-ones
On May 9, Bob Winterburn, using his 8-iron, holed his ball on the second hole to get his first ever hole-in-one.
What a great start to the season! Congratulations!
While vacationing in Osoyoos, B.C., Lorne Roberts got a hole-in-one at the Park Meadows golf course. Roberts pulled out his 7-iron on the 146-yard, thirteenth hole. He was pretty excited to see the ball go in the hole. Well done!
Please book your tee times
We anticipate a very busy season and we ask that you call the pro shop to book tee times to avoid disappointment.
We will also be encouraging foursomes on busy weekends to allow everyone the opportunity to play. Our goal this season is to make your time at the High Prairie and District Golf Club as enjoyable as possible.
An inspirational golf story
Recently I was asked to play in a golf tournament. At first I declined but then they said, “Come on, it’s for handicapped and blind kids.”
Than I thought, “Hey, I could win this!”
That’s all for this week!
