Improvements at the Joussard Community Association’s Lakeshore Campground have come in almost $30,000 under budget.
JCA president Guy L’Heureux informed the M.D. of Big Lakes council of the news at its May 27 meeting. As councilor, he also asked council to pay half of the $92,200.88 cost or $46,100.44 which they did.
The biggest cost of improvements was a new building with washrooms, showers and laundry facilities.
“We budgeted $120,000 but we got the new unit for $80,840,” L’Heureux told council. “I think (JCA) did a really good job in coming in nearly $30,000 under budget.”
“I have no problem paying it,” said Sunset House, Gilwood South Councilor Randy Ehman. “It goes to the people in our communities who use it.”
In an interview before the M.D. meeting, L’Heureux said the new 12’ x 57’ building replaces an old one that outlived its usefulness.
“It’s brand new and it’s handicapped accessible,” said L’Heureux.
The building has five sinks in the women’s washroom and four in the men’s as well as two showers and three toilets in each.
“The other building was 25 years old,” said L’Heureux. “The power was shot and the floor was rotting.”
L’Heureux extends thanks to the volunteers who helped install the building and to Delorme Enterprises, who gave them “a heck of a good deal” in transporting the building from Edmonton and setting it on its new foundation.
“Louis Delorme did a good job,” says L’Heureux. “He moved the old one and was very reasonable ($1,500 fee). He’s always willing to help JCA and he’s very reliable.”
L’Heureux isn’t sure what JCA will do with the old building.
“It may be used for storage or dismantled. We haven’t decided yet,” he says.
