Erin Burger, 7, blows kisses to the audience after receiving a hug from Connie Sabo after her belly dancing performance at Boondock’s Grill June 6. Boondock’s and Connie’s Belly Dance Group held the private function much to the delight of the jam-packed audience. After an authentic Arabic meal was enjoyed by all, the dancers performed. Boondocks and Connie’s spent over two months planning the event. The evening was so successful Boondocks and Connie’s Belly Dance Group are going to host another event in early September. Tickets will be available to purchase at Boondocks in early August. Please see more photos and story in next week’s South Peace News.


M.D.’s ‘internal evaulation’ of fire departments begins
The M.D. of Big Lakes is undertaking an internal evaluation of all its fire departments despite fierce objection from some councilors.

Council vows to continue fight against drug trade
The enhanced police service recently introduced in the region is putting a dent in the local drug trade, says the M.D. of Big Lakes council.

M.D. in no mood to support Canada Day
Canada Day celebrations in Joussard will not be supported financially by the M.D. of Big Lakes after council defeated a motion to donate $1,000 toward the event at its May 27 meeting.

Pratt announces May’s Shining Stars Each month during the school year, E.W. Pratt High School will be selecting three outstanding students who best exhibit the qualities in a chosen characteristic. May was ‘optimism’ month at Pratt; staff watched to see which students exhibited optimism not only to themselves but to staff and students. This month’s theme is ‘self-motivation’. Congratulations to this month’s students! Jenny Ayles Grade 11 Jenny Ayles really likes the variety of options courses here at E.W. Pratt because she thinks classes like I.A. and Cosmetology are great alternative choices. Taneshia Hammoud Grade 11 Taneshia Hammoud loves to be creative and is very artistic. She likes to paint and draw, but she also enjoys reading and playing tennis. Morgan Nesom Grade 12 Morgan Nesom enjoys attending our school because “people push to make it better” by using surveys and always trying to improve.
