It was the children’s moment to shine in the limelight at the High Prairie Repertoire Dance Society’s Recital at the Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre May 31. Above, Alexa Popich was part of the ‘Mermaid Dance’ early in the recital. There were also hip-hop, ballet, solo and duet performances to the delight of the audience during both shows. All the dancers exceeded the expectations of their instructors, Angela Bodnar and Laurie Cunningham. “I was glad to see a lot of the kids doing more than one dance,” says Cunningham, who is the hip-hop and tap dance instructor. “I was happy to see the kids improve and the little ones really excelled.” Bodnar, who teaches the older children, offered similar praise. “It was good to see the children on stage and getting experience performing,” says Bodnar. Planning for the recital starts at the beginning of the season in September. The recital was Repertoire’s last event for the season. Registration for next season will be announced later.
Hip-hoppers, ballet dancers or tap dancers? The High Prairie Repertoire Dance Society had them all during two performances at the annual dance recital in the Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre May 31. Instructors Angela Bodnar and Laurie Cunningham spent countless hours with the dancers this year. Both sought feedback from the students during practice, which helped their performances throughout the season.
