There was more than enough to do, for people of any age, at the 15th annual Songbird Festival June 6 and 7 at the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation in Slave Lake.

“We had a good turnout,” noted BCBC executive director Patti Campsall, adding that about 250 people came to the activities on Saturday.

The Bird Walk/Run on Sunday also attracted a good number of people from children to seniors age.

People tried their hands at making birdhouses.

“It is always a huge hit,” says Canpsall.

The banding lab was another place to be with birds, and staff of the Native Cultural Arts Museum in Grouard gave a presentation about Aboriginal and Metis traditions.

One new workshop on making green cleaning products was presented by members of Alberta Environment’s One Simple Step Program.

“It was very popular,” says Campsall.

“People were walking around with their spray bottles,” she noted.

However, the workshops as a whole attracted people.

“They talked about which workshops they were going to do next,” said Campsall.
