For the third time this year, a High Prairie service organization has made a donation
for better care at the High Prairie Hospital and J.B. Wood Extended Care Unit. The
High Prairie and District Palliative Care Society purchased three state-of-the-art gel
mattresses designed to provide maximum comfort to patients.
New assistant chief judge appointed
A man who is no stranger to the High Prairie courtroom was appointed new assistant chief
judge for Northern Alberta June 24.

RBC Royal Bank is a proud supporter of the community. Staff held a barbecue June 19 for
customer appreciation day and raised $500 for the High Prairie and District Food Bank.
Town supports enhanced policing
The Town of High Prairie’s protective services committee will provide a letter of support
for a three-year extension of the RCMP’s enhanced policing unit.

A High Prairie company will be constructing the Seal Lake Road after the M.D. of Big
Lakes approved a tender at its June 24 meeting.
Carillion chooses Bissell mill site for new facility
A portion of the old Bissell Lumber site in Enilda may soon be the home of Carillion
Canada Inc.
Summer fun begins!
The High Prairie Municipal Library began its summer reading program July 2 with a party
and fun activities.

Fort road still on hold
It’s not a matter of if; it’s a matter of when. However, it appears construction will not
begin on a proposed Peace River region to Fort McMurray road for at least three years.

Proposed bill is unnecessary, says Big Lakes
The M.D. of Big Lakes continues to oppose a proposal by the Alberta government to hire an
auditor general.

Broken promise has AAMD&C on M.D.’s side
Disgust expressed by the M.D. of Big Lakes toward the Alberta government for taking $1.7
million off the table if they assume control of the Village of Kinuso has landed them a
sympathetic ear.
Vandals strike Outreach School, Aquatic Centre
The High Prairie RCMP is requesting the public’s help to arrest the person or people
responsible for spray painting graffiti at the High Prairie Aquatic Centre and the
Prairie View Outreach School

Land-use bylaw amended
High Prairie town council has given third reading to amending the land use bylaw.
Procedural bylaw receives third reading
High Prairie town council has given third and final reading to a procedural bylaw for
council and council meetings, to meet the requirements of the Municipal Government Act.
Reconstruction projects may be funded
Two reconstruction projects at 55 Ave. and 56 Ave. may be eligible for funding under
the federal government’s $4 billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. The Town has submitted
applications for both to meet the June 24 deadline.
Library changes auditors
High Prairie town council has given approval for the High Prairie public library to change
its auditor from BDO Dunwoody to Fletcher Mydruk and Co.
Holmberg appointed to committee
Lesser Slave Lake MLA Pearl Calahasen has appointed Brian Holmberg, economic development
officer for the Town of High Prairie, as a member of the Hospital Restructuring Committee.

The Town of High Prairie has contributed $10,000 to the CT Scan Unit. Linda Williscroft,
a board member for the High Prairie and District Community Health Foundation, met with
Deputy Mayor Wayne Forrester at the June 24 council meeting for the cheque presentation.
$5,000 closer to the dream
Penn West has donated $5,000 for the CT Scan unit. Linda Williscroft, chief financial
officer for the High Prairie and District Community Health Foundation, accepted the
donation from Penn West foreman Jesse Dupuis June 30.
