1912 Case Steamer top attraction

Once again, the Pioneer Threshermen’s Association went all out for Canada Day with its grand display of old tractors.

Dozens of tractors were at Triangle Hall July 1, including the flagship 1912 Case Steam Engine after a five-year hiatus due to required restoration and mechanical work. Mike Jones and Mike Kalita operated it in the tractor parades. Several tractor-barrel races were held, too.

A pancake breakfast opened the event and a beef on a bun lunch was held later. Rain was intermittent throughout the day, but the activities went on.

Other activities included a children’s tractor pull, a threshing machine demonstration, a sawmill demonstration, blacksmithing and flour milling. There were also hacksaw, chainsaw and axe throwing contests.

Louise Liebenberg and Erik Verstappen held a sheepherding demonstration at the back of the property. They purchased a farm near Triangle in August 2008 to train Border Collies and raise 110 sheep.
