Dolphins record 72 personal best times at meet

High Prairie Dolphins swimmers posted 72 personal best times in events at their annual swim meet July 18 at the High Prairie Regional Aquatics Centre.
What makes the feat so remarkable is it was accomplished in 101 races where Dolphins recorded times. While the improvement may not be resulting in more wins in races, it does indicate the club is improving by leaps and bounds while in its rebuilding stage.
Club president Michelle Smith was pleased with the way the meet ran, from a very nervous anthem singer Taneille Crooks to the end of the day.
Nicole Peyre led the way by winning three of her four races. She won the girl’s 14 and under 100-meter butterfly, girl’s 13-14 100-metre freestyle and girl’s 13 and over 200-metre freestyle. Unfortunately, she was disqualified in the 13-14 50-metre butterfly.
Yuki Taniguchi won two races including the girl’s 15-16 50-metre freestyle and girl’s 15-16 100-metre freestyle.
Katrina Gauchier won the girl’s six years and under 25-metre flutterboard
Other swimmers recorded many second and third place results.
Dolphins had better luck in relay races. The results are as follows:
* the team comprised of Kelsi Smith, Rene Boisson, Grace Pardell and Monique Roy won first in the girl’s 9-10 years 100-metre medley relay with a time of 2:36.41 seconds.
* the team comprised of Serafina Jorquera, Kesha Smith, Nicole Peyre and Yuki Taniguchi won first in the girl’s 15-16 years 200-metre medley relay with a time of 2:55.93 seconds.
* the team comprised of Serafina Jorquera, Kesha Smith, Nicole Peyre and Yuki Taniguchi won first in the girl’s 15-16 years 200-metre freestyle relay with a time of 2:31.88 seconds.
* the team comprised of Nikolas Noskey, Bradley Nygaard, Jordon Dubois and Larkin Stokes placed first in the boy’s 9-10 years 100-metre freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.54 seconds.
* the team comprised of J.J. Jorquera, Daetan Noskey, Caul Strebchuk and Sean Boisson won first in the boy’s 15-16 years 200-metre medley relay with a time of 2:59.28 seconds.
* the team comprised of J.J. Jorquera, Daetan Noskey, Caul Strebchuk and Sean Boisson won first in the boy’s 15-16 years 200-metre freestyle relay with a time of 2:19.90 seconds.
* the team comprised of Brooke Greer, Kelsi Smith, Monique Roy and Katrina Gauchier placed second in the girl’s eight years and under 100-metre freestyle relay with a time of 2:59.88 seconds.
* the team comprised of Heaven Smith, Lauren Cunningham, Grace Pardell and Madison Cunningham placed second in the girl’s 11-12 years 200-metre medley
relay with a time of 4:36.41 seconds.
* the team comprised of Rene Boisson, Heaven Smith, Lauren Cunningham and Madison Cunningham placed second in the girl’s 11-12 years 200-metre freestyle relay with a time of 4:10.07 seconds.
* the team comprised of Doug Dubois, Zachary Boisson, Keegan Jorquera and Daetan Noskey placed second in the boy’s 11-12 years 200-metre medley relay with a time of 3:21.81 seconds.
The Dolphins competed in annual Slave Lake Sharks Swim Meet July 25.
The Regional Swim Meet is in early August where swimmers qualify for provincials.
