Blast from the past at museum

It was a time to turn back the clock Aug. 7 when the High Prairie and District Museum held Heritage Day. Activities organized included anything and everything one might have participated in decades ago. Children learned how make homemade butter and were able to taste their creation on a homemade biscuit afterwards. Washing clothes on a washboard was a big hit again this year as children didn’t seem to mind all the extra work. Many games were also organized including sack races, wheelbarrow races, three-legged races, etc. Attendance was down slightly from last year but the few dozen children who attended had a terrific time.

Zale Zabolotniuk, 9, of High Prairie, runs in one of many races held at Heritage Day. The three-legged race and wheelbarrow race were just a few of the other races held.

In days past, one had to shake or churn cream to make butter. Above, Kaylin Marquardt-Deynaka, 4, of High Prairie, is well on his way to making delicious butter.

Ava Lussier, 5, of High Prairie, tries the butter she made on a homemade biscuit. Each child was given a delicious biscuit after making their butter to try.

There were lots of thrills and spills in the three-legged race. Above, seven-year-old Cohen Lussier, left, and eight-year-old Kolby Backs try their best despite the awkward predicament.

This is the way we wash our clothes! Cheyenne Badger, 11, of High Prairie, enjoyed the old-fashioned way of washing clothes. The novelty of the process definitely outweighed the work!
