Sports: Dolphins do well in regional event

The High Prairie Dolphins Swim Club did well at the regional swim meet in Peace River Aug. 7-9, bringing home provincial qualifying medals in several individual and four relay events.
Maryann Peyre, the coach liaison, is proud of all the winners for their achievements.
“Regionals is an exciting meet for our swimmers and parents,” says Peyre. “The kids have spent many hours in the pool training in hopes of securing an opportunity to attend provincials.”
The individual results are:
* Jackie Geertsma, girls 17 and over 50-metre freestyle, third place with a time of 35.41 seconds.
* Keegan Jorquera, boys 12 and under 200-metre freestyle, third place with a time of 2:59.66.
* Grace Pardell, girls eight and under, 25-metre butterfly, second place with a time of 23.37 seconds; also, second place for girls eight and under freestyle, with a time of 19.97 seconds.
* Nicole Peyre, girls 14 and under 100-metre butterfly, first place with a time of 1:23.54; also, first place for girls 13 and 14 100-metre freestyle, with a time of 1:07.55; also, second place in the girls 13 and 14 50-metre freestyle, with a time of 30.22 seconds; also, second place in the girls 13 and 14 50-metre butterfly, with a time of 35.58 seconds.
* Kesha Smith, girls 13 and over 200-metre freestyle, first place with a time of 2:52.60.
* Caul Strebchuk, boys 13 and 14 100-metre freestyle, second place, with a time of 1:09.28; also, boys 13-14 100-metre breaststroke, third place with a time of 1:31.68.
The results for the relay events are:
* Boys 9 and 10 200-metre medley relay: Justin Abram, Nikolas Noskey, Abdullah Sharkawi and Larkin Stokes, third place with a time of 1:48.79.
* Boys 13 and 14 200-metre medley relay: Zackary Boisson, Jesse Jorquera, Keegan Jorquera and Caul Strebchuk, first place with a time of 2:53.82.
* Boys 9 and 10 100-metre freestyle relay: Justin Abram, Nikolas Noskey, Abdullah Sharkawi and Caul Strebchuk, first place with a time of 1:22.87.
* Boy 13 and 14 200-metre freestyle relay: Daetan Noskey, Jesse Jorquera, Keegan Jorquera and Caul Strebchuk, first place with a time of 2:26.57.
The first- and second-place winners automatically go to the provincials, which were held in Edmonton Aug. 14-16.
Third place winners can be wildcarded to go to provincials if they have the next fastest qualifying time.
Peyre wished the swimmers the best of luck as they represented the club and region last weekend.
She also thanks the coaches and volunteer parents for all their help and dedication to the club.
