Youth invited to ‘Town Shake Up’

The parking lot at the Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre will be Rocking Sept. 19, as youth are invited to attend and participate in ‘The Town Shake Up’ concert.

The High Prairie Drug Coalition and Youth Connections are partnering for the event, promoting the message of a healthy lifestyle, free of drugs and alcohol.

“We have to do more things for youth that are drug and alcohol free,” says Diane Bellerose, who works in the Youth Connections office.

The concert is the type of event the drug coalition wants to support.

“Our organization is about prevention,” says Angelo Murphy, a member of the coalition. “It’s a perfect venue to get the message out.”

The emphasis is performances by youth and for youth, says Bellerose. Local bands and solo performers are invited and there will be karaoke, too.

The concert goes from 2-5 p.m. and entry is free, although donations of non-perishable food items will be welcome for the High Prairie and District Food Bank. Bellerose says she would like to see the food bank’s van full by the end of the event.

School groups will also be at the concert holding fundraisers such as hotdog sales.

For bands and solo performers who would like to participate, please call Bellerose at 780-523-4881. To date, In Chaos and Still Unknown have confirmed their appearance.

For all other inquiries, please call Murphy at 780-523-8600 or Gail Michaud at 780-536-4057
