Faust landmark destroyed by fire

A historic landmark in Faust went up in flames Sept. 15 after a fire destroyed the Faust Lakeside Hotel and Burger Baron, as well as the old Bittman Garage. As a result, provincial and local fire investigators have launched an arson investigation into the blaze. “(They) conducted a scene examination and advised RCMP that the fire appears to be suspicious in nature,” says Cpl. Wayne A. Oakes. “Investigators from High Prairie and Faust RCMP are now actively treating the fire as a possible arson investigation.” However, RCMP are not able to disclose circumstances that have lead investigators to believe the fire is suspicious. Such disclosure may hamper investigative efforts. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Faust RCMP at 780-355-3670 or High Prairie RCMP at 780-523-3370. RCMP and fire services were first alerted to the fire by a 911 call at 3:21 a.m. Sept. 15. The hotel ws built in the 1940s. Photo is supplied courtesty of the Faust RCMP.
