Ever since she was a little girl, Roseanne Supernault has wanted to pursue an acting career.
Today, the 20-year-old East Prairie woman is literally waiting by the phone for news which could push her acting career into high gear.
Supernault plays Natalie in a TV pilot called Blackstone, which airs later this month on APTN. Should the pilot be made into a full-fledged show, it could mean the beginning of a promising career.
“Natalie is a young girl, she represents the drugs and alcohol abuse with Aboriginals,” says Supernault.
The show’s website says Natalie, 16, suffers from the effects of gas sniffing.
Blackstone is a fictional First Nations plagued with drug an alcohol abuse. The stories are told through the eyes of several characters, including Natalie.
Blackstone, written by Gil Cardinal, is suffering as a result of the corruption, mismanagement and nepotism of its chief and councillors, with behind-the-scenes influence from other band members. A suspicious fire claims three lives prompting Victor to film the reserve’s “entrenched culture of corruption”.
With an election coming, Natalie’s mother, Gail, decides to run for office. The problem is, she is an alcoholic and the root of Natalie’s problems.
“It’s a good story,” says Supernault. “It’s good it’s going to be told. There are a lot of issues, especially with Aboriginals.”
Supernault hopes the pilot does well.
“I hope it gets picked up. It’s a good story and I hope it is well-received.
“I’ve always wanted to make a career of acting.”
The show is produced by Ron Scott of Prairie Dog Productions. The one-hour pilot was filmed in five days near Namao north of Edmonton.
Supernault was born in Grande Prairie but raised in East Prairie and Edmonton.
“I’ve been back and forth all my life,” she says.
She is a graduate of Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts.
“It’s a regular high school with a focus on the arts,” says Supernault.
She took courses in the advanced acting class but also took choral and dance classes.
“I quit those so I could focus on my acting and directing,” says Supernault.
Supernault enjoys every aspect of acting.
“The best part is the people I meet,” she says. “They’re all pros, they want to help me.”
Supernault has appeared in several TV commercials and on the Family Channel; however, Natalie is her most intensive role so far.
“And my best opportunity so far,” she adds.
Today, Supernault works at East Prairie.
“I always wanted to spend time with my family, I’ve been away so much,” she says.
And she has an agent looking out for her interests so the distance away from the studios is no issue.
“He focuses on native roles,” says Supernault. “If there’s an audition I just drive to the city.”
Supernault is the daughter of Harry Supernault and Gaye Anderson of East Prairie.
