The end of an era!

Another piece of High Prairie’s history was demolished Oct. 3 when HAZCO tore down the old Turbo gas station. A mainstay of the town for decades under several owners and managers, Turbo was a mainstay on Highway 2 for many years. It ended quickly as the building was destroyed in hours. Crews were still reclaiming the site Oct. 9. The contaminated material was trucked to Swan Hills for destruction at the special waste treatment plant.


Piece of aircraft history comes north
For Glen Crandall, there’s no “high” quite like piloting his Noorduyn Norseman UC-64A airplane, which traces its roots back to the Second World War.

Chief Cardinal rubs shoulders with elite
Jaret Cardinal, Grand Chief of Treaty 8 Alberta and Chief of Sucker Creek First Nation, is working in Europe to build strong international relationships when it comes to climate change discussions and implementation of the Treaties signed between the Queen of England and First Nations in Canada.

Alliance touts local food processing plant
To encourage the development of local value-added food products, the Lesser Slave Lake Economic Alliance is proposing to develop a feasibility study for a food processing facility and business incubator in High Prairie.

Lady Chargers win silver medals
The senior girls’ volleyball teams at St. Andrew’s School and E.W. Pratt have something to celebrate, as they took first and second place respectively at the annual invitational tournament Oct. 2-3.

Let the NPHL games begin!
Another North Peace Hockey League season begins Oct. 17 with Grande Prairie visiting Fort St. John. This game was moved from Oct. 23 on the original schedule. Once again this season, David Temple sets the lines.

Alyssa Bramley is a new hairstylist at Leonarda’s Beauty Salon, starting there Oct. 1. Bramley also offers facial waxing.
Brittany Jarvis Brittany Jarvis is a new hairstylist/cosmetician at Leonarda’s Beauty Salon, starting there Sept. 2. Jarvis was born and raised in High Prairie.
Rhonda Keay Rhonda Keay feels right at home as a new service advisor at Monahan Ford Kawasaki. Keay started her new role Sept. 1, and is learning about it gradually.
Alex MacLeod Alex MacLeod is new at Grouard Northland School, teaching Grades 7-9 Mathematics and Science.
Kory Reimer Kory Reimer is originally from Fraser Lake, B.C., but now calls Alberta home. Reimer decided on the teaching profession in high school.
