Sports: Let the NPHL games begin!

Chris Clegg
for South Peace News

Another North Peace Hockey League season begins Oct. 17 with Grande Prairie visiting Fort St. John. This game was moved from Oct. 23 on the original schedule. Once again this season, David Temple sets the lines.

Grande Prairie at Fort St. John (Sat., Oct. 17)

LINE: Fort St. John by 6 1/2

Fort St. John begins the season on home ice and will end it at home when they host the Allan Cup next spring. Last year, FSJ began the season with a 4-3 loss at home. GP lost her the other game in FSJ 10-2 but GP also split at home with FSJ winning 6-1 and GP 3-2 in OT. In the all-time series in FSJ, GP won five of the first six games but FSJ has won six of the last seven. Only twice did FSJ cover the current line. Going with the stats, FSJ to win and GP with the goals. In their history, FSJ is only 3-2 in opening night games and is actually 2-3 in their home openers. They are a much better 4-1 in opening road games. In their history, GP is a dismal 4-7 in opening night games including 3-7-1 in first road games. They are also 4-7 in home openers. And, if you can believe it, both teams will probably be better than they were last year when they met in the NPHL final.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD STRAIGHT-UP: 98-32

LAST SEASON’S RECORD VS THE LINE: 79-51
