Day care in High Prairie is a major need and efforts continue to have a multi-use child care facility built in town.
The High Prairie and District Children’s Resource Centre’s project is an ongoing venture which is coming to fruition. On this page is a conceptual drawing of the facility and floor plans.
Citizens are reminded to fill out the survey being circulated in High Prairie and the M.D. of Big Lakes. Below is a summary of the key points the facility will bring to the region:
Key points
Multi-use and multi-purpose facility for families of children 0-6 that offers:
* Health and nutrition information and support services.
* Child development and school readiness programming.
* Parent-child play and learn programs.
* Family life and parenting skill enhancement services.
* Pre-natal and post-natal education and support services.
* Specialized services for families and children in need and for those with developmental challenges.
* Home visitation services.
* Toy and resource lending library.
* The family/community room available in the evenings for community group meetings, programs for 7-17 year olds, music lessons, health and wellness programs, and other services for families.
* Licensed public early learning and child care program (day care) with a maximum ocupancy of 50-plus children 12 months - before/after school care.
* Steps away from a full service early childhood resource centre on the same property.
* Significant outside play space, close proximity to a school park and grounds, and near a large town outdoor recreation area.
* Facility is located just off secondary highway in a residential area.
* Offers employment to at least 20 people in childcare, education, human services, health services and administration.
* Regional centre offering outreach services to the entire service regional of CFSA Region 8, the western Tri-Settlements, regional aboriginal reserves, the town of High Prairie and all surrounding community within the M.D. of Big Lakes.
Specific day care key points
* The goal is to provide access to a nurturing, healthy and positive learning environment for young children.
* Licensed public daycare for a maximum occupancy of 50-plus children 12 months - before/afterschool care.
* Centre is referred to as an “early learning centre” as the priority is enhancing child development and learning through play.
* Daily routines highlight the early integration of healthy living practices including hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, and building healthy relationships.
* Space is available to any family in the region on a first-come first-serve basis.
Naming contest
* In the spring we hope to have a “naming” contest for the day care to get families involved and excited about the project.
