Theresa's Tidbits: Here we are, once again, on the cusp of a new year.

Here we are, once again, on the cusp of a new year.
It’s no new millennium, so there’s no anxiety about computers crashing. But some people believe that we are now about two and a half years from the end of the world. According to an ancient Mayan calendar, the end is slated for December 21, 2012. So, to them, this is one of the last New Years we will be celebrating.
Will that disaster prediction come true? Who knows?
More to the point, is there any benefit in worrying about it? Either it’s going to happen or it isn’t. If it happens, it may occur on that date, or sooner, or later. There’s nothing to be gained by being anxious about it.
The key thing is to live to the best of one’s ability, and to help others in whatever way is possible, so that whenever that disaster comes, one can meet it by saying, “I have no regrets, because I have done all I can to make this world a better place.”
Which leads into the next point: we now have a chance to do this.
Actually, one doesn’t need January 1 in order to reboot one’s life. But New Year’s does seem like a logical time to make a fresh start.
Although resolutions are often broken, they do serve to remind us of what we would like to see improved in our lives. And there is no shortage of areas in which that can be done.
Relationships
Here’s an opportunity to help any relationships in your life that are broken. It takes courage to make the first step, and many relationships fall to pieces because each party waits for the other(s) to do that, and ultimately nothing is done. There is no greater tragedy than missing the chance for that healing.
Learning
Here’s an opportunity to pick up a new skill, or improve on one you already have. It pays off in greater self-confidence and more of a sense of empowerment due to the new knowledge.
Helping Others
There is no greater sense of accomplishment than that which is engendered by giving back, so choose a cause for which you would like to volunteer.
There are many, many opportunities for this in this geographical area.
Here we are, once again, on the cusp of a new year – a great opportunity to become more than we currently are.
