Sucker Creek First Nation’s election has been declared valid, says electoral officer Peter Moore.
The general poll was held at the Sucker Creek Recreation Centre Nov. 28, 2009, and the advance poll was held there one week earlier.
James Badger is the new chief, with 231 votes, defeating incumbent Jaret Cardinal, who received only 72 votes. The other candidates included Paulette Campiou, who received 169 votes; Steve Willier, with 94 votes; and John L. Willier, with 51 votes. Ten ballots were spoiled out of a total of 627 ballots.
A recount was held Dec. 7, 2009 for all the ballots for council. The top six voter getters were: Thomas Willier, with 209 votes; George Prince Sr., with 169 votes; William Terry Calliou, with 153 votes; Lavern (Spooky) Willier, with 151 votes; Matthew Willier, with 148 votes; and David Prince, with 148 votes.
The new council will sit for a three-year term. South Peace News will have stories published about council and its goals later.
