Family Fun Day festivities enjoyed by all

Mac Olsen

The Sports Palace was the place to be for Family Day, with a pancake breakfast, face painting, crafts and free skating among the activities.

“It doesn’t cost much and they can do activities together,” says Kathie Gould, organizer and community services worker for the M.D. of Big Lakes Family and Community Services. “It gets the word out that there are activities in High Prairie.”

The High Prairie and District RCMP Victims Assistance Society and members of the High Prairie RCMP Detachment cooked breakfast and served approximately 250 people. Freson IGA donated the food. The HP100 committee donated two cakes to the event and the icing had the High Prairie 100 Centennial logo.

Gould thanks everyone who helped and supported the event.

Children and families took advantage of the free skating in the Sports Palace. The A&W Root Bear, Louie the Lighting Bug and Sparky the Fire Dog joined them to give and receive big hugs.

In the afternoon, children and families headed for the High Prairie Aquatic Centre for the toonie swim. Also, a senior cribbage tournament was held at the Golden Age Club. The winners are:

1. Robert Goulet and Richard L’Hirondelle.

2. Polly Stafford and Annie Blackhurst.

Last and the Skunk Trophy: Alicemary Olansky and Jean Reid.

All players received a prize at the end of the tournament.

The Enilda Mud Bowl held bowling in the morning and afternoon.

FCS accepted food donations and money for the High Prairie and District Food Bank.

Donations were also accepted for the Green or Gone Haiti Relief Donation fundraiser. Steven Daley and his son, Trent Daley, have formed separate teams. The team which raises the most money by noon March 16 will be the winner. The losing team will get their hair dyed green and wear it until St. Patrick’s Day, or they can have their heads shaved. To make a pledge, please call 780-523-3779.
