The High Prairie Young Guns have won the All Peace Minor Hockey League’s Female Tier 2 banner after three straight wins in playoff action.

The Young Guns whipped hometown High Level 9-2 March 6 and were awarded the banner after High Level conceded the two-game total goal series.

The game was tied 1-1 after one period but the Young Guns took command with four goals in each of the last two periods to win easily. High Level’s second goal actually gave them a short-lived 2-1 lead before the Young Guns exploded.

Madison Nesom led the attack with five goals. Olivia Davies, Dakota Badger, Chelsea Gauchier and Katey Zelman each added one goal. Zelman was the only player with two assists.

Ryleigh Clarke and Sidney Pretsch replied for High Level, who took all three minor penalties called in the contest.

The Young Guns swept Horse Lake in the semi-finals by winning 5-2 in Horse Lake Feb. 20 and 10-2 Feb. 21 on home ice.

Nesom scored once and added two assists in the 5-2 win while Davies, Laurel Gauchier, Riana Pardell and Shonda Desjarlais added the others.

Shaylene Horseman and Allicia Joachim replied for Horse Lake.

The Young Guns led by three goals in the two-game total goal series coming home and were not about to let the lead slip away. They led 2-0 after one period and 4-2 after two before scoring six third period goals to make the game a laugher.

Pardell netted the hat trick in the win while Nesom and Davies each scored twice. Singles were scored by Chelsea Gauchier, Makayla Laboucan and Desjarlais.

Danica Napasis and Horseman replied for Horse Lake.

The Young Guns, who continue preparations for the Alberta Female Peewee “B” Provincials in Viking March 25-28, are coached by Greg Nesom, Calvin Gauchier and Randy Zelman. Karen Zelman is the manager while Lindsay Bloom is the trainer.
