High Prairie and area residents should know a lot more about the status of the new hospital after two important meetings this week.
The hospital review will be presented to the local hospital advisory committee March 19, then Alberta Health and Wellness Minister Gene Zwozdesky visits town March 22 to answer questions, says Lesser Slave Lake MLA Pearl Calahasen.
“He’s coming to meet with municipal leaders, First Nations and Metis leaders, as well as the hospital committee,” says Calahasen. “He’s going to answer questions and address concerns.”
Zwozdesky’s visit comes as part of a Peace Country whirlwind tour. He’s in Grande Prairie earlier in the day and arrives in High Prairie in the afternoon for about 90 minutes.
Residents have been anxiously awaiting word about when the hospital will proceed. All projects were frozen pending the review, including construction on High Prairie’s facility.
No one knows exactly what and if there will be changes to the hospital plans re possible downsizing, but citizens remain optimistic the government will keep its promise and build what was promised years ago.
