Belly dancers delight large crowd

Connie Sabo and her cast of belly dancers offered a very entertaining show in the Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre March 6.
They performed a recital program consisting of solos, duets, trios and group dances. Sabo performed the Isis Wings solo, wearing a red dress with a cape she twirled around in elegantly.
“The Isis Wings are my personal favourite,” says Sabo. “I enter a different world and hope to invite the audience through dance to the joy I feel when I perform.”
Among the other dances, Shirene Napier and Deidre Odell performed an Isis Wings Duet. Erin Burger performed the Banghra solo and then her relatives, Kirsten Burger and Natasha Burger, joined her for the Family Veil Trio.
Although they didn’t wear toppers and black capes, Shannon Soucy, Anita Fisher, Amanda LaPointe, Kristen Burger and Donna Sawchyn performed a very entertaining cane dance.
LaPointe also performed her Tribal Sword Solo, while Fisher performed a Folk Solo.
Donna Sawchyn was at the centre of the American Tribal Group finale. The other dancers surrounded her in a semi-circle and followed her lead for the moves.
There was a draw for door prizes between performances, which is a fundraiser for travel expenses.
Sabo’s dancers have been very busy, as they performed at the Boondock’s Grill Sept. 12, 2009 and the High Prairie Friendship Centre’s annual Elders’ Banquet at the Eagle’s Nest Dec. 5, 2009. Her group will perform at the Madefest Festival in Dunvegan May 1-2 and at Grande Prairie Regional College the same month.
