East Prairie’s Roseanne Supernault is one of the nominees in the Best Alberta Actress category for the 2010 Alberta Film and TV Awards, commonly known as the Rosie Awards.

“I’m very excited,” says an elated Supernault. “It feels amazing.”

Supernault played Natalie in a TV pilot called Blackstone, which aired last year on APTN. Blackstone itself garnered nine nominations including Best Drama Production. The show was produced by Prairie Dog Film and Television.

“They didn’t contact me at first,” says Supernault. “I heard about the nomination from one of the girls at Prairie Dog. It was awesome!”

Another actress in Blackstone, Michelle Thrush, was also nominated in the category which has six nominees.

The Rosies are administered by the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association and celebrate excellence and outstanding achievement in Alberta film, TV and news media. The awards will be resented at a dinner in Edmonton May 15.

Blackstone is a fictional First Nations plagued with drug and alcohol abuse. The stories are told through the eyes of several characters including Natalie, a young girl, who represents the drugs and alcohol abuse with Aboriginals. The show’s website says Natalie, 16, suffers from the effects of gas sniffing.

Meanwhile, the First Nation is suffering as a result of the corruption, mismanagement and nepotism of its chief and councillors, with behind-the-scenes influence from other band members.

“It’s a good story,” says Supernault. “It’s good it’s going to be told. There are a lot of issues, especially with Aboriginals.”

Since Blackstone, Supernault traveled to Ontario to shoot a show called Every Emotion Costs.

“It’s really good,” says Supernault, who urges fans to go the show’s website with the same name. “Mostly First Nations people were involved in the show.”

Supernault has wanted to be an actress since she was a little girl. She is a graduate of Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts, where she took courses in the advanced acting class.

Supernault enjoys every aspect of acting.

“The best part is the people I meet,” she says. “They’re all pros, they want to help me.”

Supernault has also appeared in several TV commercials and on the Family Channel; however, she now wants to focus on film and TV. She expects the summer to be very busy as her career blossoms.

Supernault is the daughter of Harry Supernault and Gaye Anderson of East Prairie.

Roseanne Supernault

Roseanne Supernault, of East Prairie, was nominated April 21 for an Alberta Film and TV Award for her role in Blackstone. Since the filming of Blackstone, Supernault traveled to Ontario to shoot a show called Every Emotion Costs.
