continues
June 26

Most of the major
work is completed, now
all that is left are a few
odds and ends to tidy up.
Volunteers are asked
to attend the Grouard
Cemetery June 26 for a
final cleanup starting at
10 a.m., says Pearl
Sandor.
“There is not much
left to do,” she told
members of the
Grouard and Area Historical
Society at its
June 10 meeting.
Sandor was very
pleased about 30 people
attended the first work
bee May 29. Workers
were kept busy cutting
the tall grass, raking
and tidying for several
hours.
However, the work is
not completed. Sandor
says about two more
hours are needed to get
the job done June 26,
then workers will sit
down to lunch afterwards.
Work at the cemetery
is part of a larger project
which includes erecting
a $50,000 monument.
“We need to raise
funds for the monument
and people have starting
making donations,”
says Sandor.
The cemetery committee
has a list of 1,200
names of people buried
in the cemetery from
1864-1999. A grass fire
destroyed many of the
markers so gravesites
are unknown.
All donations are tax
deductible. For more information
or to volunteer
for the cleanup,
please call Sandor at
780-523-3968.
