Northland ECS graduates bid farewell

Mac Olsen
for South Peace News

One by one, dressed in blue regalia and caps with tassels, 12 children made their way down the aisle to the step and waited patiently for gifts.
They are in the ECS class at Grouard Northland School, which held a graduation for them in the gym June 11.
Under teacher Sheila Prince’s direction, they sang several songs, including the “ABC” song and “Down by the Bay.”
Principal Jackie Sander addressed the parents, saying it has been a long and challenging year, but the students have overcome many obstacles through perseverance.
“They journey and dreams have just begun,” says Sander.
She also read a poem describing the joys of having them as students.
Next, Prince presented gifts to each graduate, with Tristan Mindel first, as he goes from K-4 to K-5 next year. She also read a letter to parents.
The ceremony concluded with a slide show of the students in activities during the school year. Then the graduates and their families were invited for a buffet dinner.
Sanders and Prince thank everyone who organized the event and raised money to support the ECS class.

Teacher Shares memories of eventful year

By Sheila Prince
We give you back your child, the same child you confidently entrusted to our care last fall.
We give him back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than she was then.
Although he would have attained his growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch his personality unfold day by day and marvel at this splendid miracle of development.
I give her back reluctantly, for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other and we shall always retain a little of each other.
We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned and enriched our lives together this year. I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give him back I must. Take care of him, for he is precious.
Remember that we shall always be interested in your child and her destiny, wherever she goes, whatever she does, whoever she becomes. Her joys and sorrows we will always be happy to share.
