Spotlight Natural Health: Health restoring Swedish bitters

Natural Health by Lucie Sauvageau N.T.
for Spotlight

It is known by many, that Swedish bitters helps to energize, detoxify, prevent illness, strengthen the immune system, improve digestion and help with regularity.

This 16th century formula of herbs has been very successful with many people. It was known to have healed typhoid fever, and can be read about in a book written by Maria Treben, called Health Through God’s Pharmacy.

So what is Swedish Bitters?

It’s a unique formula, consisting of eleven herbs and substances, which is more potent than if one would take each ingredient separately.

The healing properties lie in the combined substances which enhance one another.

We are all exposed to toxins throughout our life, and over time, these pollutants can put a strain on the liver.

Whether it’s car exhaust, cigarette smoke, alcohol, impure drinking water, prescription drugs or pesticides.

Detoxifying the body will start the healing process, and Swedish bitters helps to do just that.

It helps to purify the blood, and helps to reduce fatigue, listlessness and that run-down feeling that some of us get over time.

It is great for rheumatic pain, as a stimulation therapy for allergies and for generally cleaning out the body. A course of treatment is recommended extending over eight to ten weeks, twice a year.

Swedish bitters is true to its name, and therefore does have a bitter taste.

But when one’s health is considered a priority, one learns to appreciate the beneficial ingredients of bitters.

In Europe, it is a routine practice for spring and fall cleansing, and also for aiding in digestion.

They truly believe that Swedish bitters help to balance the diet with the too familiar sweet, salty and sour tastes.

If you’ve ever felt too full after a rich meal, where you find yourself with belching, gas, bloating and other digestive problems, then this is where Swedish bitters apparently really shines.

The ingredients help stimulate the salivary glands, gall bladder, stomach and liver, and enhance almost every aspect of digestion, while helping nutrient absorption, regular bowel movement and a feeling of well-being.

If the Swedish bitters taste too bitter for your tastebuds, you can dilute a teaspoon in juice, tea, or water and take it 30 minutes before a meal up to three times a day. Take two teaspoons after eating for occasional indigestion or after a heavy, rich meal.

Apparently you can even dab the bitters undiluted on minor skin infections, insect bites, burns and even blemishes.

A compress of Swedish bitters has also been used as a remedy for headaches and migraines.

Lie down for 15 minutes with a washcloth soaked in bitters applied to the head or the back of the neck. Swedish bitters stimulates blood circulation and can relax constricted blood vessels.

For safety: It is not advised during pregnancy and lactation, for persons with intestinal obstruction or for those susceptible to bouts of diarrhea.

Swedish bitters helps with so many ailments, and is more appropriate than ever for our health and well-being.

I’ve heard so many good things about it, and have been told that once you start using it, you will soon find that it becomes an important part of your medicine cabinet and herbal first-aid.
