Come dance!
Students at Prairie River Junior High performed a musical for their school and the public Jan. 12-13. Left-right are Kailynn Barber, Karen Waikle, Peyton Severson, Katey Zelman, Kaitlyn Cooper and Kelly Cramer. Entitled Once on this Island, based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy, it tells the tale of a girl from one culture and a boy from another and their forbidden love. A story and more photos will be featured in the Jan. 25 edition of South Peace News.

Negativity worries biodiesel investors
Some investors wanting to build a biodiesel plant in the region are concerned about comments allegedly made by High Prairie farmer Stan Peacock.

Regals' playoff hopes fading fast
The High Prairie Regals’ hopes of making the North Peace Hockey League playoffs suffered a serious blow last week after they lost two games and watched the Valleyview Jets upset the Lakeland Eagles in McLennan Jan. 13.

High Prairie’s new hospital is expected to come in at $110 million. Industrial plants like Tolko today could cost $250 million or more. The proposed coal plant south of Swan Hills is being promoted at $750 million. An oilsands extraction operation rings in at a whopping $10 billion or so.
