Obituary: Charles Andrews, 1928-2011

Charles Andrews was born Charles Solomon Andrews Nov. 23, 1928 to Moise and Julie Andrews (nee Sunshine) in Grouard, and passed away Dec. 12, 2010, at the age of 82 years.

Moise and Julie had at least 13 children, two of them being twins who were stillborn. The names of Charles’ siblings were/are Eulalie (Lilly), Helen, Bill (William), Rose Marie (Mary), Florence, Louis Moise, Margaret, Daniel, Pete and Doris.

Charles grew up on a farm outside of Enilda. He enjoyed being active and adventurous. He worked on surrounding farms in the Big Meadow area.

He was a very hard worker and worked all his life. Charles worked at Wagner’s lumber just past the East Prairie River Bridge when it was there. He would be canting logs at times and even piling lumber. He was one to never complain about work, he seemed to enjoy it. Charles was very strong, as he could cant the logs on the sawmill carriage or pile railroad ties effortlessly.

Charles was a big man, yet he was very gentle. Children were attracted to him; they could sense his gentleness. Charles liked to tease and make up nicknames. He liked to be with friends and family. He enjoyed joking around. Charles also played bingo where he was once a big winner. He enjoyed watching TV and walking.

Up to the time he got ill he could be seen walking Brownie, his dog. Charles loved his dogs. They were usually smaller dogs. They may have all been named Brownie.

Charles was predeceased by his parents and all of his siblings except his sister, Florence, who is the last of the Mohicans. Lilly, Margaret and Louie were the most recent losses of this Andrews family. Charles is also missed by his many nieces and cousins and friends.
