Obituary: Hazel B. Smith, 1920-2011

Hazel Beatrice Smith, a long-time resident of Enilda, passed away Feb. 27, 2011, at the age of 90 years.
Born in 1920, she moved to the area in 1932 with her parents, and later married Robert Martin Smith in 1937. She and her husband farmed north of Enilda for 53 years raising a family of six children.
Hazel was a lifetime member of the Enilda W.I. a community group instrumental in doing many local projects. She worked at Northland School Division and AVC-Grouard for 16 years until 1980, first as a cook and later as dean of dorms. She had been an excellent gardener and was known for her quilting, sewing and knitting.
Her husband, Bob, had passed away in 1983, but she remained living in the same yard until 2007 where the couple had been since 1954.
Hazel was very devoted to her family and had many friends in the area.
The funeral for Hazel was held March 4 at 1 p.m. at the High Prairie United Church with Rev. Sharon McRann officiating. Pallbearers were Wade Morrison, Bradley Smith, Jerry Smith, Jesse Smith, Owen Smith, Randy Smith and Shane Smith.
The eulogist was Wade Morrison. Interment followed in the High Prairie and District Cemetery.
Hazel is survived by: her daughter, Joy Morrison; son Robert (Bubby) Smith; daughter Colleen Tindall; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Smith, and three sons, Roy, Harold and Kenneth Smith.
