Obituary: Karen Eunice Smith, 1957-2011
|
Karen Eunice Smith was born in High Prairie on Aug. 25, 1957 to Mary Ann Smith and Archie (Lahoo) Willier.
Karen had four sons: Kevin, Terry, Evan and Ryan. She had five granddaughters, and one grandson, whom she loved dearly.
She worked as a chambermaid around High Prairie. She then met her companion Dan of 10 years with whom she went to work with on road construction, they then moved to Edmonton. They lived there for four years until her health got the best of her. She then stayed home while Dan went to work and provided for her.
Karen’s pastime was to go cruising around the city, going to garage sales and playing bingo. Diane and Gloria went to bingo with her one evening and Karen liked one of Diane’s dabbers, so she was going to say “Man, I sure like your dabber”, but instead of saying dabber, 0-69 came out and of course, Karen had a blond moment and very loudly says, “Man I sure love that number!” and she made people at the bingo laugh. Of course, she blushed after realizing what she said about O-69. But anyway, Karen, with all her blond moments, we love you and will miss you very much.
This is from her friend Cora Willier – “Sisters all these years; was there for one another, phoned each other, had our ups and downs like everyone else. Talk about it in Cree, sounded better to say it in Cree and we would laugh and laugh. I will always love her. She was a very clean lady and housekeeper, always got compliments. She didn’t let me know that she was a very sick lady.
Karen was pre-deceased by her Mom and Dad, and brother. She leaves to mourn four sisters: Bea, Pat, Diane and Marilyn and one brother Carl, four sons and six grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.
