Obituary: Annie Louise Calahasen, 1911-2012
|
Annie Louise Calahasen, a daughter, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, resided in Dawson Creek, B.C. and passed away Jan. 14 at the age of 101 years.
Annie was born Jan 11, 1911 in Grouard, to parents John Baptiste Gladue (Lamouche) and Marie Carifelle.
Shortly after she turned 18, she met and married Alfred Calahasen and began raising a family of her own, nine children in all.
She was a very hard-working and dedicated mother, raising her children with no plumbing or electricity, or many of the comforts we all enjoy today. Mabel remembers hauling snow in during the winter for laundry and drinking water. Her very strong Catholic faith surely brought her through these times.
In the fall of 1963 she moved to Dawson Creek where she lived since.
As her children grew and had children of their own, she was called many names: Mom, Gram, Chapann, B.C. Grandma, Gram Gram and Kokum.
Many of us fondly remember the mukluks, the moosehide gloves and the beaded hide slippers and her passion for knitting slippers, scarves and potholders. Everyone can surely remember the love felt when in her later years you received her knitted dishcloths.
Annie love music, the Young and the Restless, and of course, Stampede Wrestling, but mostly God and her family.
She was loved by all. She touched so many and her smile will follow our hearts and memories forever.
Annie is survived by five of her children: Mabel, Charlie, Caroline, Ivy and Ralph.
She was predeceased by four of her children: Richard, Robert, Sylvia and Margaret.
