Laura Arlene (Stewart) Johansson, 1946 - 2006
Laura Arlene (Stewart) Johansson passed away
in her home on Feb. 8, 2006 at the age of 59 years.
Laura was born on April 14, 1946 to Dorothy and James Stewart
in High Prairie. She was raised on their farm in the Smoky River
area along with her siblings Joyce, Karen, Rodney, and Mike.
Laura met the love of her life, Klas Johansson, and they married
on April 8, 1967. They began their marriage building their homestead
on Alder Ridge Road. They had four children: Vern, Susan, Judy,
and. Jason. She worked hard alongside Klas on the farm, bringing
in the crop and feeding the cattle and pigs.
In 1984 she was introduced to a young foster child named Lana,
whom she immediately took into her heart and considered her a
third daughter.
When her grandchildren began arriving, she was the happiest grandmother
around. She went to work for the Best of Friends Daycare for a
few years until her arthritis became too unbearable. Her life
continued to revolve around her family and grandchildren, and
her love for each and every one of them was astronomical.
Five years ago she suffered a stroke, and it was discovered that
she had a chronic lung infection. She was sent home having to
rely on oxygen to breathe. She made the most of each day and suffered
in silence while giving her family and friends all the love and
support that was needed. She loved her life on the farm and she
knew that her loving family would take care of all her needs.
She was always willing to listen and tried her best to help in
any way that she could.
Laura leaves behind to mourn her loss: her loving husband, Klas
Johansson; her five children including Vern (Cindy), Susan (Danny),
Judy (Garry), Jason (Rianna), and Lana; her grandchildren: Matthew,
Leeann, Erin, Nicole, Michel, Montana, Mackenzie, Nicole, Nicholas,
David, Kristi, Jesse, and Echo; her two great-grandchildren Trenton
and Cillian; her sister Karen (Ole); her brothers Rodney (Phoebe),
and Mike (Betty); her Aunt Olive Heath; as well as numerous in-laws,
nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by: her mother and father; her sister and
brother-in-law Joyce and Duane Lind; her mother-in-law Anna (Johansson)
Polard; her father-in-laws Algot Johansson and Frank Polard; her
brother-in-law Einer Johansson; and her great-nephew Travis Quartly.
The funeral was held at the High Prairie United Church on Feb.
13 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sharon McRann officiating. The eulogist
was Albert Gannon. Shirley Johansson supplied the music. Pallbearers
were her nephews: Ken Grotkowski, Allan McLeod, Ronnie Johansson,
Dean Johansson, Larry Johansson, Lyle Johansson and honorary pallbearers
were Kevin Backs, Josh Imrie, Trevor Barnes, and Sheldon Nyberg.
Interment followed in St. Marks Anglican Cemetery in High
Prairie.
Donations may be made to the High Prairie Palliative Care Unit
