Martha Blanchard, ?-2008
Martha Blanchard, Beloved wife of Eugene (Chuck) Blanchard of Calgary, passed away on August 14, 2008 at the age of 75 years.
The eldest of 5 children, born to Emil and Anna (nee Geleta) Matula, Martha was born in Enilda, Alberta. She completed her high school and went on to attend Keyano College in Fort McMurray, AB. She married her husband Eugene on August 27, 1954 and together they lived in various places including Alberta, Quebec, Ontario, France and Massachusetts. She attended two family trips to Europe in 1996 and the Maritimes in 2004. Martha was an active member of her community, canvassing for charities for several years.
Martha’s many accomplishments throughout her life included writing, producing and directing a Christmas pageant, becoming a Girl Guide leader, teaching and becoming a Regional Master of Bridge; representing USA Northwest and Canada Western Provinces in the World Bridge Tournament, she was a Charter Member of a Senior Club, Charter Executive of a Coin Collection Club and Club News Editor.
Martha also became a Genealogist WEB master and book writer of Genealogy, she was manager of a Welcom Wagon Hostess and for a taxi Company. She worked as a real estate sales rep., and as an Assistant Accountant for College. Martha was also a Jewelry Crafts Artist and won the High Triple Trophy 690 in a Canadian Semi-Final Bowling Tournament, but her greatest accomplishment was raising her three wonderful children.
Besides her loving husband Chuck, Martha is also survived by her children, Donna Jean Hreys (Lawrence Fryk), Eugene Joseph Blanchard (Wesley Hall) of Fort McMurray; grandchildren Pam Hreys, Ben Humphreys, Melissa Hall, Calvin Hall, Mariah Blanchard; and great-granddaughter Caitland Hreys. She is also survived by her sisters and brother-in-law Helen and Joe Herunter, and Beth and Al Payne, of Edmonton, AB; brothers and sisters-in-lawAlber(Dorothy) Matula of Quesnel BC, and Bill (Vi) Matula of New Serepta, AB. Martha was predeceased by her parents Emil and Anna Matula.
In Loving memory of Martha Blanchard, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes. Friends and family are asked to make donations to cancer research to show their support.
