Mary Diane Adams (nee Kozie), 1937-2005
Mary Diane Adams (nee Kozie) was born in Poland on Dec. 11, 1937.
At a very young age she moved with her parents to Germany and
then in 1947 they immigrated to Canada. There they lived in the
Gilwood area and Mary attended school in High Prairie. She worked
at a local restaurant known as Almas Café and at
a local grocery store called Farmers Trading. It was while working
at Almas Café that Mary met her future husband, Don
Adams. Don was in the gravel trucking business. Mary and Don were
married in High Prairie on Jan. 27, 1956.
Mary left her work in public life to assist her husband with his
business and to raise their family. Don and Mary retired from
the trucking business in 1985 which enabled them to travel quite
extensively until her health began to fail. During her life, Mary
truly enjoyed her family, the many fishing trips and camping excursions
and was always very supportive of all her childrens activities.
Mary was very active in the community over the years participating
in the Catholic Womens League, the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary
(life membership) and the Ladies Legion Auxiliary. Mary was truly
a recognizable face at the Town Office as she, for many years,
assisted in manning municipal elections.
Mary passed away with her family at her side, on Dec. 20, 2005,
after a courageous battle with cancer. She lived a life of faith
and tremendous pride.
Mary leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband of 50 years,
Don, and their three children: Donna (Jim) Smyth of Edmonton and
their children Sherri, Jennifer and Brandon; Gary (Barb) of High
Prairie and their children Shaun and Megan; and Larry (Darlene)
of High Prairie and their children Stuart, Patrick and Sara; as
well as her younger bother Jim (Florence) Kozie and his family
of Red Deer.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Josephine Kozie.
In celebration of Marys life, a private memorial service
was held on Dec. 22, 2005, followed by an open house at the Catholic
Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the
Canadian Breast Cancer Society or the High Prairie and District
Palliative Care Society, Box 33, High Prairie, Alta., T0G 1E0.
