Two people are running to be Trout Lake councillor in the Peerless Trout First Nation election on Oct. 30.
Initially, the election was for two councillors – one each from Peerless Lake and Trout Lake – but on nomination day Sept. 27 only one person ran for the Peerless seat. The incumbent, Paul Houle, was elected by acclamation that day.
Houle was first elected in 2020, according to Peerless Trout’s official website (ptfn.net).
“Paul is very proud of the accomplishments of the First Nation,” says Houle’s bio on the website, “which include the signing of Bill C-92, the planned paving of Highway 686, Loonskin Cultural Camp and the newly-formed Elders committee.”
Norman Gladue and incumbent Judy Sinclair are running for the Trout Lake seat. In 2022, Gladue ran for chief, says a Slave Lake Lakeside Leader article.
The election will be Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., says the notice of election. Trout Lake resident voters can vote at the Trout Lake Community Hall. Non-resident voters can vote at the new Red Earth Creek Hall at 600 Grassy Way, Red Earth Creek.
The vote for the Trout Lake councillor is open to adult PTFN members who are associated with Trout Lake.
Peerless Lake is 232 km north of Slave Lake and 75 km northeast of Red Earth Creek.
