The High Prairie and District Museum has an old mooring ring in its collection. It was donated by Phil Nichols, date unknown. It measures 19 cm in diameter and is made of cast steel with a hole in the ring for placing a pin. The mooring ring was found by Duane Nichols, son of Phil Nichols, while surveying the town of Grouard in the 1970s or 1980s. The pin was located west of the bridge at the edge of the channel. Mooring pins were used by ships to tie securely to shore. This pin likely is from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Each week, the museum presents an artifact. Drop by during regular hours to see this item and more. For all inquiries, please call curator Darlene Adams at the museum at [780] 523-2601.
