National Truth and Reconciliation Day Sept. 30 saw a variety of commemorations activities across the region. One of the more unusual involved the release of a juvenile female bald eagle. It had been captured, injured, a few weeks earlier at the Marten River Campground north of Slave Lake, then turned over to the Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey, who took care of it until it was fit for release. Then, on Sept. 30, Randy Elm, right, president of the Marten River Beach Cottagers Society, released it near the mouth of the Marten River.
