A stronger link between the Town of High Prairie and the local chamber of commerce may be on the horizon.
The High Prairie and Area Chamber of Commerce has set its first regular meeting of 2018 to Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. and cancelled the meeting for January.
“We’ll discuss plans for some spring and summer activities and promotions,” president Jennifer Zatko says.
“We also plan to have a meeting with town council to discuss a partnership.”
She did not disclose further details of the proposal.
Almost one year ago, then-mayor Linda Cox suggested the town hire an economic development officer, which could also serve as an administrator for the chamber. It was also the same time the chamber was seeking to hire an executive director.
Cox shared the idea with a chamber delegation at a regular council meeting Feb. 28.
She said that the position of economic development officer for the town could be valuable to the chamber.
Since last June the chamber has been served by a part-time administrative co-ordinator under contract with Community Futures Lesser Slave Lake Region, currently held by Jaylee Wolfe.
Monthly chamber meetings are scheduled for the first Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Town of High Prairie civic building where the chamber office is located. Before the meeting, the executive meets at 10 a.m.
The office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For more information, phone the chamber office at [780] 523-5368, or contact the chamber through the website at hpchamber.net.
