The High Prairie Medical Clinic is asking for help from High Prairie town council and Big Lakes County council in getting answers from the Alberta government.
The clinic, owned and operated by Dr. Robin Laughlin and Dr. Pam Edwards, wants answers to two issues.
In an e-mail sent by Judy Johnston, assistant manager of the clinic, she says:
* Another extension may be needed to stay in the old hospital because the new site will likely not be ready by the end of August.
The clinic has already been granted one extension to stay at the old hospital.
* a doctor who wanted to work in High Prairie applied for the job after seeing Alberta Health Services ads, but was not given an interview.
Councillor Brian Panasiuk has asked the matter be placed on the agenda at council’s July 25 meeting, too late for press reports.
A report to council presents the pros and cons of the matter. Political pressure may result in better health services for area residents, as well as showing local support for businesses.
A possible negative aspect is that “…we may start to be seen as a community that is always complaining and will not be taken as seriously in future issues,” reads the report.
County council meets July 26 to consider the same request.
