It took Big Lakes County councillors less than a minute to drop the idea of purchasing one or two houses.
Councillors received for information the proposal at its July 13 meeting.
It’s done,” said CAO Bill Kostiw.
Council first discussed the idea at its June 22 meeting as a way to help recruit staff. Kostiw wrote in his report the first house would be used to provide a home for the county CAO while the second house would be used for other staff or health senior staff.
Kostiw suggested the county could partner with the Town of High Prairie to purchase the house.
“Recruitment of senior county staff always involves housing issues,” Kostiw said June 22. “It may be in the county’s and senior employee’s best interest if the county owned one or two houses.”
Cost was estimated at $250,000 for one reasonable three-bedroom bungalow.
However, a motion was made to receive for information and passed with no discussion. Sunset House – Gilwood South Councillor Ann Stewart tried to speak, but she was cut off as such motions cannot be debated.
