Big Lakes County will continue to support the Swan Hills Snow Goers snowmobile club.
At its regular meeting Nov. 23, council supported a request to renew its membership at $15,000.
Last year, the county paid a membership of $15,000 and appointed a member of council and alternate to represent the county on the Golden Triangle Consortia.
“A lot of local people use the trails,” Reeve Ken Matthews says.
Council agreed to support the organization based in a community that pays significant funding to Big Lakes County.
“Swan Hills is a major contributor of tax dollars and we should support this,” says High Prairie East – Banana Belt Councillor Don Charrios, who was appointed to the represent the county on the consortia, when Big Lakes joined last year.
The SnowGoers, a member of the consortia, is a non-profit organization of snowmobile enthusiasts that provide grooming and maintenance of Big Lakes County portion of the 350-kilometre Golden Triangle snowmobile trail network that connects Swan Hills, Whitecourt and Fox Creek, and maintenance of trails around Swan Hills.
