Big Lakes County will soon become the new managers for Riverbend Water Co-op.
At its regular meeting April 13, county council approved a recommendation to approve the Riverbend Water Co-op asset purchase agreement. The purchase includes all assets and liabilities.
“The county has been negotiating with the Riverbend co-op for almost a year to take over the co-op’s assets and operations,” CAO Bill Kostiw says.
The county will take over the system, which serves a region southwest of town, for $1.
“The major benefit to the county is that if we wish to expand to the west Triangle area, this is a good way to proceed,” Kostiw says.
“It would also enhance the county’s overall sustainability plan.”
Possible funding support may assist the county to upgrade the system. Upgrades are estimated at $150,000.
“We may receive some cash but not enough to fix the system,” Kostiw says.
Most of the system is in good shape for the next 10 year.
