A Faust organization has received funding after several residents cleaned up the hamlet in the spring.
At its regular meeting Sept. 28, Big Lakes County council approved a recommendation to contribute $1,000 to the Faust Community League under the county’s Roadside and Hamlet Clean-up Grant Program.
The decision came after the organization applied for funding after the clean-up May 8, rather that before.
“They didn’t follow the application process,” South Sunset House – Gilwood Councillor Ann Stewart says.
Last year, the league also didn’t take proper steps.
“If your organization chooses to purse clean-up funding next year, please apply for funding in advance of the planned clean-up and follow the directives of the Roadside and Hamlet Clean-up Program safety checklist,” Reeve Ken Matthews states in a letter to the league dated Nov. 30, 2015.
As a way to enforce the process, council also passed a motion to add to the policy that organizations will not get funding when proper procedure is not followed.
“The Faust Community League hosted a community clean-up in Faust on May 18 in an effort to draw the community together, beautify the hamlet, and increase community pride,” says Suzanne Allan, director of community services.
She adds eight people of all ages participate
