Northern Sunrise County and Nampa areas, get ready for a Frosty Family Fun Day that is sure to please all ages!
Family and Community Support Services is hosting a Frosty Family Fun Day on Jan. 19 from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. to welcome all families to have a little fun and entertainment.
“The Frosty Family Fun Day is designed to encourage families to embrace winter by coming together and participating in free, fun outdoor activities,” says FCSS director Amber Houle.
“The event aims to foster a sense of community, encourage physical activity, and promote mental well-being during the colder months when families might otherwise isolate themselves indoors.”
The family skate will feature hotdogs and hot chocolate at the St. Isidore Skating Rink, and is a partnership between FCSS, Northern Sunrise County Protective Services, Alberta Health Services, and the St. Isidore Cultural Centre.
“January is typically the coldest month of the year and can be challenging for families as shorter days and lower temperatures often lead to decreased social interaction and physical activity,” says Houle.
“By providing an opportunity to enjoy skating, tobogganing, and warming up with hotdogs over a fire, this event combats the winter blues by creating an environment for families to connect, be active, and make lasting memories,” she adds.
Houle says there are normally between 30-45 participants at the outdoor events during winter months, dependent on weather conditions.
“It’s a great way to bond with your family and connect with other families in the area, in a relaxed atmosphere and an excellent chance to step away from screens and embrace the outdoors,” she urges.
Houle says each agency that is partnering to host the event will have a vital role at the event. Fire departments oversee the open fire, share updates on their programs and services, and allow participants to explore their apparatuses. Alberta Health Services Health Promotions brings along information on staying active in the winter months.
“Participants will enjoy shinny hockey, public skating, tobogganing, roasting hotdogs over a fire, hot chocolate, and door prizes,” she concludes.
