HPE Reporters

Hi! This is Liam and Ilona from 5C with the HPE news report.

Grade 5C is ready for an exciting year of learning. We have our eye on the sky as we start our weather unit in Science.

Grade 1S has been working very hard and learning about patterns in Math.

Grade 3P students met the direction police during Social Studies this week. They also were introduced to Ms. Picky during writing time.

Grade 4D is working on an, “All About Me” poster in L.A. for open house.

Grade 3J is excited to learn how much we have in common with children from Peru, Tunisia, India, and the Ukraine. All kids love to have fun, learn, and spend time with family.

Wow! Grade 4W begins a new year and they have been busy getting ready for a fantastic year. They did their first school-wide recycling of the year and it went really well. Hillary Payne is a student teacher in their class and students are excited to have her join them. In Social Studies,
students are going to be learning about symbols of Alberta as they practice research skills.

Grade 6PI is learning about trees and forests. They will be off to the Jackpines for a field trip Sept. 29. Remember to dress appropriately, pack an extra lunch and extra water bottles!

Students in Grade 6PI are off to a great start to the year. They are having fun getting to know their teachers. They have started a unit on democracy in Social Studies.

Grade 5C students are busy getting ready for our open house on Sept. 21. They have done writing and math to share with their parents.

Our Breakfast for Learning program is having an apple fundraiser. Order fresh apples from the Davison Orchard in Vernon, B.C. Apples cost $30 for a 15-lb box. Order forms are available at the school office. Prepaid orders only, they are due Sept. 28.
Toonie for Terry
This year is the 35th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run/Walk and we have something special planned. HPE, Prairie River Junior High School and E.W. Pratt High School students are all gathering together to participate in the run through Jaycee Park on Sept. 29. The challenge is on to see if we can raise $670 for cancer research. We are asking that students bring a toonie to support a real Canadian hero and cancer research.

Terry Fox often said that it was the youth who would carry forth his efforts and work toward a world without cancer.

Parents are welcome to attend the run and we will be meeting at 1:45 p.m. at the E.W. Pratt field before proceeding to Jaycee Park. By participating you will help share Terry’s example of courage, strength and hope.

There is an HPE casino and volunteers are required on Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1. We know it’s Halloween, we don’t get to pick the date, sorry!

Volunteers can contact Verna Isaac at [780] 536-6841, [780] 523-3801.

Club Moo is in need of parent volunteers. Please contact parent organizer Laura Kemp at [780] 523-8074.

That’s it for this week’s news. Look for our report next week to see what is happening at HPE!
