“So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, ‘If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.’” [John 8:31-32 AMP]
Everyone one of us has different beliefs about life and how we are to live our lives. Psychologists tells us that by the time you are six years old, most of your beliefs are already formed and by the time you are 12 years old they are established.
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old he will not depart from it”.
It is important for us as parents to teach our children well when they are young because so many of the beliefs that we have inherited keep us from experiencing true freedom in living life and the life that God would love for us to live.
In John 10:10 Jesus said that He came to “give us life and life more abundantly”.
Are we experiencing abundant life or are we experiencing relationship problems, financial struggles, addictions, identity insecurities – not knowing who we are?
We need to position ourself to receive the life that God wants for us.
Romans 12:2 says, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” which means we can change by thinking about things in a different way. Is the way you are thinking bringing you life?
The scripture today [John 8: 31-32] teaches us that if we abide in [remain connected to] God’s words, it has the ability to free us from our wrong thinking. Just like when you plug a light into an electrical outlet. As it remains plugged in, connected and turned on, light can be generated.
As we gain understanding of God through His Word and the example of His Son, His ability and power can flow through us and set us free to live an abundant life.
