HPE School – Joussard, PRJH place first at Hand Games Tournament

Submitted by HPE

High Prairie Elementary School hosted the High Prairie School Division Hand Games Tournament April 15.

Four schools participated in the event. Kinuso sent their elementary and junior/senior high teams. Joussard and High Prairie Elementary entered an elementary team each and Prairie River Junior High School entered a team.

Elder Herman Sutherland gave the opening prayer and shared words of encouragement with the students before the games started. Sutherland and Russel Cardinal, both did the main drumming, while many students and coaches also participated in the drumming during the games.

There were two divisions, Junior/Senior High and Elementary. After an hour and a half of playing in the round-robin event, PRJH and Kinuso Jr/Sr High played off and for the Elementary trophy HPE and Joussard played off. There were many family members who came to watch these exciting games. Students from HPE came and circulated around the players to watch.

In the end, PRJH, led by coach Jamie Chalifoux and Joussard, led by coach Hannah Knowles, took home the trophies.

All the coaches would like to send a big thanks to Matt Lovsin from Freson Bros. for donating the snack, HPSD for their support and to our wonderful drummers for their patience and wonderful drumming.
