Students at Prairie River Junior High School in High Prairie had the chance to experience some hands-on and minds-on learning during Let’s Talk Science in May.
Let’s Talk Science is an award-winning, national, charitable organization focused on education and outreach to support youth development that presents unique learning programs and services that engage children, youth and educators in science, technology, engineering and math [STEM].
“Over the next 10-15 years, an estimated 6.5 million jobs will require workers with high-level STEM skills,” says Ashley Hellyer, co-ordinator of integrated program delivery.
Six people from the Let’s Talk Science team of volunteers visited PRJH during May to engage students in different STEM workshops including biotechnology, Tectonics Rock!, and crime lab.
The program provides educators with STEM resources and their outreach programs aim to provide equality of access to all students taking part.
The project was funded through support from Shell Canada Limited.
Charlene Parker, community liaison for Shell Canada Limited, was at the engagement session on May 19 as they wrapped up their workshops with the students.
