H.P. court docket
June 6, 2016
Judge G.W. Paul
A 30-year-old man was fined a few hundred dollars for mischief to property causing damage.
Fred Junior Wapahoo, 30, was fined $200, plus a $60 victim fine surcharge, for interference with property when he appeared in High Prairie provincial court June 6.
Court heard Wapahoo was intoxicated at the apartment of his common-law wife on April 8 and “she saw him punch a hole in the wall,” said Crown prosecutor Haydn Shook.
“Mr. Wapahoo had been on a drinking binge for several days and was angry with his common-law.”
Wapahoo had no previous convictions related to alcohol.
“I hope this is the last time [in court],” he told Judge G.W. Paul.
That was lauded by the judge.
“Stay out of unhealthy relationships and alcohol,” Judge Paul said.
Wapahoo is moving on with his life and feeling much better, said Cheryl Kachuk, criminal courtworker for Native Counselling Services of Alberta.
“On the day of the incident, he was very depressed. He says he was completely out of it.”
Wapahoo said he would repair the hole with his skills and experience as a carpenter.
Only one other person was sentenced on the regular docket with a fine of $105 for speeding.
